Searching across multiple collections

Question

How do I search across collections in LucidWorks Search?

Answer

Solr

You can add the "shards=" parameter onto you Solr queries to tell the machine receiving a request to distribute the query across multiple instances, and return a merged results set. For example:

http://localhost:8888/solr/collection1/select?q=test&shards=10.0.0.1:8888/solr/collection1,10.0.0.2:8888/solr/collection1,10.0.0.3:8888/solr/collection1

(where 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 are the LucidWorks Search instances you want to search)

SolrCloud

You can use the following syntax for federating across collections:

http://localhost:8888/solr/collection1/select?q=test&collection=collection1,collection2,collection3

This is documented on http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SolrCloud
