Relevancy Workbench fails with HTTP 500 error after a few minutes

Symptoms

After a few minutes of running the stand-alone Relevancy Workbench module it fails with an HTTP 500 error and messages similar to the following:

NoMethodError (super: no superclass method `request_parameters'):
  config/routes.rb:11:in `(root)'
  lib/rack/solr_connection_manager.rb:11:in `call'

 

Cause

This error could happen due to a known issue with JRuby on certain versions of Java.

 

Resolution

Start the Relevancy Workbench module with the following startup option:

 

-Djruby.compile.mode=OFF

For instance:

$> java -jar relevancy.jar -Djruby.compile.mode=OFF
