Why does my slave get extra index.xxx directories?

Basically, sometimes you can get into a situation like this, where you get these dated version of your indexes. Since this an old index (at least part of it), having these sit around can use up a lot of disk space since they aren't being cleaned up. It may look something like this:

total 36
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 29 2012 autocomplete
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 20480 Feb 18 05:40 index
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 27 05:27 index.20140127052653
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Feb 17 05:32 index.20140217051903
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 636 Feb 18 12:50 replication.properties

Basically you are running into:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-4506

What is happening is that you are having a failure of replication in which case these partial replications don't get cleaned up. So, yes, you can delete these directories. But you need to figure out why the replication is failing in the first place.
